2016 Lifetime Achievement Awards

Dorothy Joan2.jpg                                                 DOROTHY JOAN KENDALL

Nominated by Linda Kendall Smith

Joan/Dorothy served ALAC in many capacities through the 60’s, 70’s, 80’ and 90’s.  She served on the Board of Directors, as President, on the Breed Standard committee and on the Awards committee.

She purchased her first Lhasa Apsos from Gloria Fowler, after seeing a photo of one in a magazine and being intrigued by their look.  I’m pretty sure many of us can relate to that experience!  When they arrived at her home, they immediately enchanted her.  Those two young dogs were Chs. Kai-Sangs Flame of Everglo (Flame), and Everglo's Spark of Gold (Sparky).

The first dog with the Orlane prefix that Dorothy finished per titleholder records, was CH Orlane’s Oji-Hu, born in 1965 and finishing in January of 1967.  He was a Flame son.

We thank Joan for her years of dedication to ALAC and to the Lhasa Apso.

MARIANNE NIXON

                Nominated by Bobbie Wood

Marianne of San Jo Lhasa Apsos became a member of ALAC in the 1960’s She was a true advocate of the breed having bred over 170 Champions, 8 Best in Show Champions and multiple Specialty and Group winners in conjunction with her daughter Leslie Ann Engen. Marianne was very dedicated to ALAC and the betterment of the breed. She served as Vice-President, was on the Board of Directors, served on the Breed Standard and the Illustrated Guide Committees and was editor of the Bulletin for a few years. She designed the Illustrated Guide but her most lasting contribution will always be the design of our beautiful ALAC Logo.

Marianne always had a quest for knowledge and she would share that knowledge freely with anybody who wanted to learn. If she didn’t know the answer to a question, she would search until she found the answer and then share it. She was a student but also a teacher extraordinaire.

Thank you Marianne for your knowledge, and your years of service to ALAC and the Lhasa Apso.
